Seamlessly Growing from a Carry-on to a Checked Bag with Briggs & Riley

Before I had my son, I was never one to check bags. I traveled with carry-on exclusively for a number of reasons:
  • You don’t have to show up to the airport early to check your bags
  • You don’t have to wait what feels like an eternity for your bags to come out on the baggage carousel
  • You don’t have to risk having items stolen by baggage handlers
  • It’s easier to change flights at the last minute (in the case of delays or cancellations)
  • It’s so much easier (and cheaper!) to take public transportation

My one go-to bag for every trip, no matter whether I’m traveling for one day or two months is my Briggs & Riley Baseline Black Rolling Cabin Bag. I’ve had it for 12 years now and it’s been my trusty to companion to every continent and more than 50 countries.   I use it because there are plenty of compartments so I can stay organized, and it has hidden pockets for valuables, including an RFID blocking pocket that prevents unauthorized access to my passport, my credit cards and other devices with my personal information. There’s also a cushioned pocket for my laptop. Most of all, it’s really sturdy; I’m always in a rush so I really bang my bags around and this one is up to the task. And just in case I’m too rough on it, it’s got a true lifetime warranty.  I just add a duffel bag and place it on top of my Briggs & Riley Rolling Cabin Bag and that’s all I need for most trips, no matter where I’m going in the world.   Now that I travel frequently with my son – he’s already been on 60 flights to 6 countries and  counting - I’ve had to re-evaluate my packing and luggage choices.  With all his clothes, toys, diapers – so much more stuff! - carry-on travel is usually impossible, so I swap out the duffel bag with a Briggs & Riley Baseline Medium Expandable Spinner that matches my rolling cabin bag. The bad news is it’s too large to carry on, but the good news is that it has plenty of space for all my clothes, my son’s clothes, and his diapers. This bag is outstanding so I use (and recommend) travel credit cards with baggage protection, just in case. What I also love about it is that my rolling cabin bag fits perfectly on top. I can just lock it in and cruise through the airport with my son in one arm, while the other arm gently steers my bags.
